I went on a nice 32 mile bike ride yesterday, followed by a 25 miler this morning. I averaged 18.5 mph on Saturday and 19.4 mph on the ride today. I had a lot of fun, even though I was riding alone. The trails weren’t very busy, and I listened to an audio book on my mp3 player while I rode (a Howard Hughes biography).

I am spending the weekend writing a case study on Yahoo! (YHOO). It’s 10 pages of pure fun. Oh wait… no it’s not :)

I put one of the new tires on the front wheel today, and rode to work. It’s not as smooth as the other tire, but seems to corner better. They say these can take 100 miles to break in, and since I have tomorrow off, I just may do 30 or 40 miles to see if that helps.

I’ve got major amounts of homework this weekend, so I’m getting started “early”. And by early, I mean the semester has only two weeks left, and I have to catch up on _everything_ (since I did hardly anything the past two months ;) ) We’re doing a business case study on Apple Computer for Management of Technology, and have the final in Statistics.

About 1/4 mile from my house this morning, I got a flat on my bike! A little frustrating, but since I was so close to home, I just went home and drove to work. At least taking the red car leaves a smile on my face. It also gave me a chance to stop by a bike store at lunch and pick up some spare slime tube (700x25c) and some Continental GatorBacks (with Kevlar) to help avoid some flats.

I was taking a couple days off from dieting and working out, and even had Pizza for dinner last night. It was okay, but I gained a few pounds (as expected). I wanted to do a “soft-reboot” of my metabolism and give it more calories than needed. I’ll let you know if it works… It was tough not “dieting”, since what seems like a diet is now really just the way I eat. I really did change the way I eat I guess!

Okay, so I’ve been riding my new bike all week, and have been loving it. Seriously. I dropped two full minutes from my previous best on a 25 minute ride. Anyway, Jonah and I were at a bike store, and he saw the “nutrition rack” with the various carbo snacks, bars, and of course the fancy “gels”. He picks up a Kiwi-Strawberry one and suggests I get it.

What am I going to do, tell him “no”? I got it, and tried it yesterday.

Dear LORD! I think someone ate kiwis and strawberries, got the hershey squirts, saved it, and put it in a small foil package and labeled it “gel”. AUGH! That stuff was nasty. It didn’t help that I don’t particularly like kiwis.

I may try other flavors (since they have caffeinated gels), but I’m not getting my hopes up. I also read in an online article somewhere that they are sometimes great to add to protein mixes for a post-workout drink. That’s probably where the extras will end up.

I got “Just a Geek” from Amazon this week, and have been enjoying it. It’s pretty funny, and it’s interesting to read about the eclectic topics Wil Wheaton brings up. I recommend it. He’s definitely a good author and getting better.

In addition to Wil’s blog, I’ve been reading some other random person blogs for a several months. Maggie Wang is a fitness enthusiast and game level designer/scripter. Fairly interesting in a random sort of way.

If you’re looking for a present for me (hahah :) , you could get me this: Death Star Woofer on eBay.

We ate out at Carabba’s last night and it’s sittin’ heavy in my stomach today. Went on a nice and fast bicycle ride this morning (only about 10 miles) and felt great. But now I’m feeling “blech” again… O-Well… guess I better ride some more! I’ve been working on TeamSites.com a lot recently, when I should be doing homework.

I finally saw Shaun of the Dead. It was extremely funny, especialy if you’re a fan of Dead-come-to-life and zombie movies. Janet didn’t watch it, but she did rent Sideways… We tried to watch it, but it was so boring and lame, we fast forwarded through the rest of it. I wouldn’t want to know those people in real life, and I definitely wouldn’t bother to watch 2 hours of it… YAWN.

Well, I hadn’t really planned on getting a new bike, but I was looking around, and Janet said she’d get it for my birthday, so I picked up a nice Giant road race/training bicycle OCR 3 in Corsa Red (to match the Ferrari :) ). I rode it today and it’s WAY faster than my old Specialized hybrid bike. Much rougher ride due to no suspension other than the carbon fiber forks flexing. It’s been extremely fun so far.

Jonah and I went on a short 11 mile ride on Saturday along the Rio Grande, all the way from our house to the Zoo and back. I took a picture with my nifty new camera phone (I got the new phone last weekend because Janet accidentally washed my old phone – it was very clean but stoped working *grin*).

Jonah’s bike is a Giant MTX 125 7 speed BMX bike. He also got it for his birthday! Note the matching water bottle – that was the main selling point for him.
